How a Bungee Trampoline Works

How a Bungee Trampoline Works

by Jason Gluckman

Bungee jumping became increasingly popular in the past decade, as “extreme sports” captured the public’s attention. An offshoot of this phenomenon is the bungee trampoline.

Parents will be comforted to know that, especially under the supervision of a camp counselor or a professional recreation center, bungee trampolines are often quite safe. Indeed, the fact that atrampoline is below the participant ensures far greater safety than traditional bungee jumping.

A bungee trampoline allows you to jump over ten meters into the air, so you can literally have a bird’s-eye view of the world. It consists of a support structure with elevated steel arms. The rider is strapped into a harness, which is suspended between two of the arms by bungee cords that catapult the rider into the air.

There can be more than one trampoline in a jumping station, allowing four to six riders to jump simultaneously. The contraption needs a 110/230 volts/10 amperes electrical outlet to run.

When the rider is shot into air, the unique purpose-built elastics come into play, taking the kinetic energy in the downward jump and converting it into an upwardly propelling force both increasing the jumper’s power and stabilizing the jump, giving more height and airtime to perform backward and forward flips. This was previously impossible without years of training on a regular trampoline.

Bungee trampoline rides have gained tremendous popularity the world over, particularly in amusement parks and malls.

Come Bounce on the Urban Rebounder

by Johann Erickson

As a child, jumping on a trampoline can provide hours of entertaining fun. Being bounced into the air like you weighed nothing at all, then landing with all the grace of an Olympic gymnast, there was nothing that brought more pleasurable enjoyment then the simple device known as a trampoline. As an adult, the same piece of equipment that made you feel light-headed all summer long is now getting a new image as the next step in the every-changing world of exercise.

Although the trampolines being marketed today are a mini-version (sized for only one person) of the trampolines children generally bounce on, they are purported to have the same fat-burning abilities as the larger-sized ones. In fact, the American Council on Exercise has recently predicted that rebounding (a phrase referring to the full-body exercise that can be achieved using nothing but a mini-trampoline) is fast becoming one of the hottest fitness trends today. Websites with exercise tips, complete with diagrams and full descriptions, abound on the Internet. There are also rebounding classes available at many fitness centers around the country where you can learn the proper positions and movements necessary to maximize your fitness regiment.

One of the leading mini-trampolines on the market today is the Urban Rebounder. Made from a strong woven mat surface and sporting a 28 inch diameter surface, the Urban Rebounder can sell for upwards of $300 in most retail stores, with a package including three DVDs and a carrying bag being offered on television for $340. There are two types of Urban Rebounders available today, one for home use and one for gym use. The only real difference between the two is that the home trampoline is built to hold 300 pounds of weight, while the gym trampoline can hold up to 350 pounds. Unlike the trampolines of your youth, the Urban Rebounder is woven much tighter, and therefore a bounce of only two to three inches is typically possible. That small bounce is more than sufficient enough to work youre the muscles in your legs and abdominals, however. According to Healthbounce.com, working on the Urban Rebounder can burn up to 700 calories in just one hour.

Exercising on a trampoline also has health benefits beyond burning calories. Because the soft surface of the trampoline absorbs a high percentage of the shock that would normally hit your feet when bouncing or running on a hard surface, your joints are better protected from wear and tear to your joints associated with most workouts. Less injury to your joints means less pain after your workouts, which also means you are more likely to keep up a regular exercise routine. Often those starting out on other regiments will hurt themselves and give up altogether. With the Urban Rebounder, keeping up with a daily exercise routine can be enjoyable, instead of painful. Unlike the majority of aerobic exercises available today, which are primarily geared towards women, men can enjoy the health benefits of the Urban Rebounder as well. The Urban Rebounder is also safe for children as long as an adult is supervising.

There are plenty of reasons to try out a mini-trampoline like the Urban Rebounder; your health, the health of your spouse and/or children, and the simple enjoyment that can be received from bouncing. So refresh those memories of summer days long past and get out there and bounce, bounce, bounce!

JumpKing Trampoline

A JumpKing Trampoline Will Make Your Kids Go Outdoors!

Between television, video games, and the computer, many parents can find it pretty difficult to get their kids to go outside. While some children may enjoy going outdoors to play sports or ride their bikes, other kids just find it more stimulating to play video games or watch television all afternoon long. Unfortunately, too much sitting around is not good for them; recent obesity studies have shown that American children are getting too fat when they are young.  To encourage your kids to go outside and actually move around for awhile, consider purchasing a JumpKing trampoline.  The biggest and most well known manufacturers of huge outdoor trampolines have recently revised some of their designs to make jumping on a trampoline as safe as sitting on the couch, providing the consumer with a better and more entertaining trampoline.

Since its conception in 1948, the JumpKing has been a staple at many family’s homes all around the world. The JumpKing trampoline is widely characterized by its blue spring cover and high stance off the ground. While they have manufactured all sizes of trampolines throughout the years, they currently only make fourteen and fifteen foot (diameter) varieties. You can purchase all sorts of add on parts for your JumpKing trampoline, including a netted enclosure to prevent your children from accidentally jumping off of the trampoline in mid air.

There are, of course, certain safety precautions to keep in mind while supervising your children on the JumpKing trampoline. To begin with, if it is windy or raining outside, you should not let your children jump on the trampoline. Secondly, a rule that not many people ever follow, is that you should only allow one person to jump on a trampoline at one time. Generally, since the JumpKing is so large, people allow large groups of children to jump on the trampoline at once, which can lead to serious injury of children who are jumping near the edge.
